Specsavers
Specsavers sees a 38% increase in learner satisfaction since adding Chameleon to their L&D toolbelt.

When asked about Chameleon compared to other authoring tools, Jack Veselovski at Specsavers says it gives them "creative agency".
As a large retail chain, Specsavers was releasing hundreds of new training resources every year. The business needed to roll out training fast and at scale. But speed wasn’t the only requirement – employees wanted an experience they had come to expect from all forms of content. Everything they engage with, everything they consume has to look great on all devices.
Chris Dwyer, Learning Systems Manager at Specsavers explains it all to us.
About Specsavers
Specsavers is a multinational optical retail chain, which operates mainly in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and more.
Chameleon Creator
To meet the demand of producing hundreds of content every year, Specsavers saw Chameleon Creator's fast, easy and beautiful aspect as a useful tool for their L&D team. In turn, Specsavers saw learner satisfaction jump by 38% from previous tools.
Learner Satisfaction Increase
Specsavers saw an increase in learner satisfaction from previous eLearning authoring tools.
Average Satisfaction Rating Out Of 5
Chameleon modules outperform competitor modules which previously saw an average of 3.3.
“The main challenge we were faced with was determining how we could quickly produce eLearning content that gave different functional and creative experiences each times,” says Chris.
The team had been using Storyline and Rise: tools that served their purpose, but each came with trade-offs. Storyline offered customisation but was complex and time-intensive. Rise was fast but visually uninspiring – leading to learner fatigue and a lack of engagement.
That’s where Chameleon came in. Chris could see its flexible design and user-friendly editor made it easier to create the kind of varied learning experience that really work at Specsavers.

“Each module takes on its own style and feel, compared to other platforms where modules feel the same aside from the colours and images used within,” adds Jack.

Chameleon Creator vs The Others
Since using Chameleon, Specsavers learning team has been able to expand their creative direction and quality of learning.
“With Chameleon, we know the visual identity and overall creative experience with each module can be different from one to the other and we are only bound by our imagination,” says Chris.
"From a learning experience perspective, we now have improved flexibility with how our team members interact with a module and the actions they can perform, increasing engagement with the content and in turn retention of content."

Learner Satisfaction Skyrockets
Specsavers goal with using Chameleon was never to save money or time, it was to provide better learning experiences for the team. One of the first Chameleon projects the team created replaced two of their older Storyline modules.
Originally those modules received a satisfaction rating of 3.18 and 3.52 out of 5.
The new Chameleon modules are receiving a 4.6, 4.57 and 4.7 out of 5.
A 38% increase from when the team previously used other competitors.
Chris also shared some of the feedback the team received from learners after switching to Chameleon:
- “Loved the 3D models and in-depth exploration of frame measurements and batches.”
- “Broken down into really easily digestible chunks on a topic that is really important, but easy to overlook.”
- “Fun to learn!”
This snapshot is a trend that Specsavers sees across all their Chameleon modules, consistently outperforming Storyline and Rise modules for learner satisfaction.
Chameleon Analytics
Alongside learner satisfaction increasing, Specsavers has seen senior stakeholders finding value in the data that Chameleon is able to provide in terms of how their content is performing and how well it is being engaged with.
The SCORM interaction data that is retrieved from the modules are “easy to understand” and “always meaningful”. The tracking of this data is made easier than ever with Chameleon Analytics.
“SCORM data from Rise modules have always been inconsistent in providing this level of information and when they do, it’s hard to understand,” says Chris.
Part Of The Puzzle At Specsavers
As a company, Chris says that Specsavers has always taken an innovative approach to learning, especially in taking risks with new technology. Their risk on Chameleon proved impactful and already, sees high ROI in nurturing the learner mindset within the company.
Chameleon isn’t the only tool Specsavers uses – but it’s the one that’s made a lasting impression. By giving their L&D team more creative freedom, they’re now delivering learning that team members value, and stakeholders trust.
As Chris puts it: “It’s great to have an eLearning authoring tool that allows us to continue to provide our team with learning experiences they value and appreciate.”
